LAHORE: Dengue fever is proving to be a severe threat as over 70 cases were reported in Lahore on Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the city to 690.

According to sources, the health department has been struggling to control the virus as the number of affected people has risen to 823 in Punjab alone. Earlier four cases were also reported from Faisalabad.

The health department has also been blamed for not disclosing adequate information about the virus to the media to help spread awareness.

Liquid prevention

Scientists at the Agriculture University of Faisalabad claim to have prepared a liquid to keep the mosquitoes away and thus prevent dengue fever.

The entomologists at the university claim the liquid that has been prepared from citrus fruits can be applied on the skin to keep the mosquitoes away and spraying of the liquid over stagnant water kills the larvae.

The scientists at the Agriculture University have asked the government to use their product on a commercial scale to prevent a dengue outbreak.

Corruption comes with prevention

The district administration's department of epidemic diseases is allegedly involved in the embezzlement of millions of rupees in the purchase of diesel for the anti-dengue campaign.

The district administration has sent the case to the anti corruption department which has started its inquiry.

The department of epidemic diseases was asked to spray the anti dengue insecticides in the district and no insecticide was sprayed, state sources. Sources also said that the department sent a fake report regarding the awareness campaign to the health department.

EDO Health Dr Fayyaz Ranjha has been suspended after the report was found fake.

The warehouse of the department has been sealed and the anti corruption unit is investigating the reports of embezzlement in buying the diesel for this campaign.

Is money the only thing they care about. they dont have self respect, no morals and most of all no fear that one day they will be judged in the court of God. May Allah have mercy on our hapless Pakistani brethren. The people in power are leaving no stone unturned to make people miserable.
