Countrywide violence: Security officials claim some 460 killed since September 2013

Civilians have borne the brunt of such incidents across the country.

As many as 460 people, both civilians and security personnel, have been killed in terrorist attacks across the country since the September 9, 2013 all parties conference on militancy and national security, security officials said on Wednesday.

Another 1,264 people were injured in the attacks which took place in that timeframe, they added.

According to the officials, civilians have borne the brunt of violent incidents across the country. Of the 460 people killed in the attacks, 308 were civilians, they said. Similarly, 684 of the 1,264 people injured in militant attacks across the country in that timeframe are civilians, the officials added.

Out of the remaining casualties, 114 of those killed in the violence belonged to the military while 38 belonged to the police, the officials said. They added that among those injured in the incidents, 531 were military personnel while 49 were policemen.

Soon after coming to power in the May 2013 general elections, the PML-N government convened an APC on September 9 to discuss issues pertaining to the ongoing insurgencies in the country and other national security challenges. The conference ended with a joint resolution calling for initiating peace talks with the Taliban to restore peace in the country.
