The explosive device weighed around 12 kilogrammes and had ball-bearings, nut-bolts and nails attached to it. According to the BDS, the device was planted in a block of cement and made in a chemical can.
It was reported that around three kilogrammes of explosives were used in the device.
It was placed on a footpath near Naurus Chowrangi according to the police.
It took the BDS 20-25 minutes to defuse the explosive device.
The target of the foiled attack could not be determined. Security forces have cleared the area.
This is the second bomb scare in the city this month. On February 6, there were reports of a bomb being planted outside the Water Board Office in the Bahadurabad area of Shara-e-Faisal, which the Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon was to visit. A BDS visiting the site had confirmed that the bomb scare was false.
