Unlawful arrest: Illegally detained man found

Complainant alleges that the police demanded Rs50,000 for his release.

KARACHI: A bailiff recovered a man kept in wrongful confinement during a raid of the Malir Cantt police station on Monday. The raid was carried out after a resident, Manzoor Masih, filed an application in the court that his son, Haroon Masih, was picked up by the police from his home and detained at the police station. The complainant also alleged that the police demanded Rs50,000 for his release. The district and sessions judge in district Malir, Muhammad Yamin, after reviewing his application, ordered the raid to be carried out. The bailiff, Shahid Hussain got the victim released on a personal bond after the police failed to produce any concrete evidence to justify his detention.
