Raas vs Rafique: Tribunal stopped at MPAs request

Raas requests the LHC to stop the tribunal from carrying out proceedings against him.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday stopped an election tribunal from continuing its proceedings on a petition against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s MPA from Lahore, Murad Raas. The LHC issued the ordered after Raas challenged the tribunal’s proceedings against him. Raas, who was elected from PP-152, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s defeated candidate from that constituency, Khawaja Salman Rafique, had challenged his victory with baseless allegations and without any documentary evidence that he [Raas] had rigged the elections. He said the tribunal was biased in Rafique’s favour. Raas requested the LHC to stop the tribunal from carrying out proceedings against him. The court admitted his petition for regular hearing and issued the election commission a notice for March 24.
