Bertolucci lauded Pakistani engineers and scientists and said that "Pakistan has a first class pool of scientists and engineers, a requirement to become an associate member of CERN."
He added that Pakistan and CERN are working in close collaboration from quite some time and the work from Pakistan’s industries is favourable.
Also present at the occasion Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Chairman Dr Ansar Parvez said that the membership will open opportunities for the locals to learn from the developed world.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on February 11, had told a four member CERN delegation that Pakistan is hoping for associate membership of the European organisation.

Keep hearing here as Pakistan is going to have a biggest achievement of her life. I think people are just congratulating each other just for the sake of congratulations...... First every conutry who is collaborator to CERN in any capacity is eligible to become "ASSOCIATE MEMBER" of CERN. Remember there is difference to be a "Member (ONLY European Union countries are members except Israel)". Associate members have no authority what so ever and there nothing one can gain extra as associate member than what you can have as a collaborator (of the CERN projects). To be part of of CERN as an ASSOCIATE MEMBER, the country has to pay 2-3% of their GDP as annual associate member ship fee. Only one person from Pakistan is spreading this kind roumer as this is a going to be big thing. Actually by spreading news like this to ignorant nation he is trying to get his personal benefits nothing else (probably this is all for this person's survival since he failed to achieve anything other than what PAEC had already committed before even this person joined the CERN collabration project for Pakistan). When people have no plan or program they spread this kind of roumers to make fool of people and get their personal benefits to survive. No one will pay 2-3% of GDP of Pakistan (a country which has several other important issues than CERN).
As far as India is concerned, India has been offered this several years ago and they made a smart move of not to join as ASSOCIATE MEMBER and waste 2-3% of their GDP as annual fee for nothing. Rather they asked CERN, they will prefer to join as a "MEMBER" So please, If some one has doubts go and read the CERN rules and even can ask this directly from the CERN officials.
When Pakistan's Nobel prize winner, and father of scientific institutions and educational policies Dr Abdus Salam was a professor at Imperial College in 1957, Peter Higgs was his second student working under him as post doctoral fellow. Whatever cost for Pakistan to become a CERN associate member it is worth it. Look at how money is spent on defence. It is an honor for Pakistan. I know of one Pakistani lady scientist who is working at CERN and took part in the discovery of the Higgs boson. It should not be called God particle, that was a marketing strategy to sell books.
@Desi Samachar:
I am not into India bashing, but your information is wrong, Currently CERN has 20 Countries as its members, and 3 associate members, and 5 nations with observer status . (Namely Turkey, Russia, USA, Japan & India), observer nations have no part in decision making and procedures, whereas Member and associate member states have duties and privileges, they make contribution to costs, decision making and other CERN's operations. Plus Pakistan, as a non-member state have been involved with CERN (with Co-operation agreement) since November 1994, and 27 Pakistani Scientists and technicians took part in Large hadron collider project .
To few high on opium Pakistanis in above comments. India is observer member of CERN since a decade. Only two other countries along with it, guess who, USA and China. No matter whatever education you guys get , you will remain in dinosaur age.
It is a proud moment as also Pakistani scientists are also involved in the analysis of the enormous data being generated by Large Hadron Collider experiments. Pakistan can proudly claim that in these experiments, not only during the initial period of infrastructure erection but also during experimental phase, Pakistani scientists and engineers have significantly contributed in this international venture.
Regarding the news this is really a positive step for us that makes the case strong that we have some genius minds and have the best facility research productions that makes us upto the mark of Associate membership in European organization. Also Pakistan has incredible potential for advancement in science and technology, Pakistani scientists are talented as 30 members of team is currently working there giving there best for the organisation and there is hope for more sustainable future.
What a rocket science as i have seen that Indians have been crying and mixing the situation with moons and Mars mission. Please read it with your open eyes as CERN is not something related to moons and Mars still if you have your indigenous shuttles but see of what use these were if you guys ponder on the recent flood situations in India which clear says that indigenous but not genius.
India made its own cryogenic engine, reached on moon and now on way to mars on its own because this is land of opportunity and we create leaders (Not Terrorist) like Indra Nuie,Sanjay Jha,Sundar Pichai and latest CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadela.

Actually what you guys are fighting over is useless, The CERN is known for its discovery of God Particle, the very concept which was given by Nath Bose (British India) and later carried forward by the unsung hero Dr Abdus Salam (Pakistan) , and Peter Higgs, its a success of scientists from all over the world that (specifically India and Pakistan),.
Say thanks to Dr. Abdus Salam for that,
For God's sake, PLEASE leave India alone in something at least! Sick people!
@Ravi: Tell your fellow Indians and most importantly that short-sighted scientist of yours to stop viewing everything through an Ind/Pak prism. He made the provoking statement, not any Pakistani.
We seriously need to stop comparing everything with India and learn to celebrate our own victory when we achieve something magnificent. And then you ask why both sides hate eachother.
Cool down pakistanis... it's just that you have fulfilled the criteria but still have not been admitted there. Getting there is not easy coz a lot of politics is also involved and it's the only high technology experiment going on in Europe so they donot want to divulge critical details. Also the europeans have not allowed even the US to become a full fledged member of cern , it still has an observer status.. India and china after supplying hundreds of crores worth of equipment still have a dismal status in CERN with china having a co-operation agreement and India having a observer status.
I see smoke rising from our neighbors' place, eh?
Pakistan Zindabad!
Indian physicist Bikash Sinha said it would be "very embarrassing" if Pakistan steers ahead of India and becomes an associate member at CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research), the world's largest particle physics laboratory.
Pakistan is going to improve its science and technology step by step, while India is going to recede into the Hindu stone age under the visionary leadership of Modi and with scientists of a mindset like Sinha.
Great news, MashAllah
