The MQM committee said that on Tuesday it had given the government 24 hours to recover 45 of their missing members. This deadline expired on Wednesday evening without any progress.
As a result, the party said it will launch countrywide protests. However, it made it clear that their members will abide by the Constitution in staging their protests and observe days of mourning.
The MQM said that its protests were also against the extra judicial killing of their workers.
Sit-ins and mourning days
MQM forewarned that it will arrange sit-ins on all major roads of the city and protests in the national and provincial assemblies and will start from the Senate session scheduled for Thursday.
They have also said that they will observe not one day of mourning but of three to seven days.

People are killed by dozens every day. Yet there are some lives more valuable than the others. While there are news that the killers of Dr. Imran Farooqi are in Pakistan but nobody is worried about their arrest for killing the founding leader of MQM. When are we going to hear demands for their arrest and expose the brutal murder of MQM founding leader?
"MQM to stage nationwide protests over their missing workers" Since when areas in Gulshan,Korangi and Landhi have become "Nationwide"?
In 1986 they were protesting, in 2014 they are protesting. What progress!!
Just waiting for dharna trolls, highway blockers and truck-driver thrashers to raise voice against peaceful sit-ins by MQM. Simply because MQM doesn't agree with your naya pakistani views on TTP and their spokesperson doesn't mean they don't have the right to protest against injustices/human-rights violations.
I totally agree with "RKM's" comments. Yes, the common ppl only suffers and rich ppl just enjoy extra holidays. Please let all the POOR PPL live in Peace........Thank you!
Look at all these posts, blaming the victims for doing the only thing they can. Before any one can says they are hardly innocent, i say if you are innocent go ahead cast your first stone.
@RKM: The least you have to worry about is groceries.
You can thank God that you don't have to face torture.
perhaps a mouths were zipped before in this regard, i wonder why fahad aziz`s FIR reinforced this?
There is no excuse why government will not do enough to locate missing persons. It is however absurd for one party (MQM) to press the government to spend all its effort to locate its missing workers only. Is it because lives of other citizens are not as important as MQM workers? And why MQM didn't do enough to locate missing persons when it was in power, and why it is crying foul only when it sits in opposition?
I think mqm is confusing karachiwide protest with nationwide protest
Sir, because of your "appeals", when the transports go off the roads and business is shut down, we, the common ppl, face many hardships. My plumber is working at my home these days, and I pay him PKR 600 per day, by which he buys grocery and food items for his family of 5 on his way back home. Now due to your appeals he says it becomes hard for him to sit at home and he thinks about what to do today. No other party in Pakistan, be it the biggest party PPP whom we all love to hate, even they do not appeal for shutdowns. Cut down the crap sir, its a humble request, let us live in peace.
What about MQM missing persons in London? why no protest for them? Raza Haroon, Khalid shamim, Mustafa Kamal, Hammad Siddiqui etc,..
