Pakistan's General Maqsood Ahmed new UN military advisor

Military advisor is responsible for providing military advice to Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations.

Lieutenant-General Maqsood Ahmed took oath as the military advisor to the UN on Monday, according to a tweet by the official Twitter account of the UN Spokesperson. 



UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had announced the appointment of Gen Ahmed on August 26, 2013 as the military advisor for Peacekeeping Operations at the UN.

According to information provided by the United Nations, the Military Advisor is responsible for providing military advice to the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations and, when requested, through him to the Under-Secretaries-General for Political Affairs and Field Support, the Secretary-General and the Security Council.

The military advisor is also responsible for providing advice and support to heads of offices and divisions within the department of Peacekeeping Operations, Field Support, operations with military components led by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and missions with military advisory functions led by the Department of Political Affairs.
