The military’s board on Tuesday approved the promotion of 30 brigadiers to the rank of major general.
The annual meeting of the board for promotion of brigadiers – headed by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif – was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.
These were the first major promotions approved by the army since General Raheel took over as the chief of army staff in November last year. The board also includes corps commanders as members.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), officers recommended for promotion to the rank of major general include Armoured Corps’ Brigadier Syed Hasnat Amir Gilani, Brigadier Azhar Saleh Abbasi and Brigadier Abdullah Dogar.
Officers from the artillery getting promotion include Brigadier Abid Mumtaz, Brigadier Syed Qaiser Abbas Shah, Brigadier Shahid Mahmood, Brigadier Asif Ali and Brigadier Muhammad Abdul Aziz.
Officers from the Frontiers Force, promoted as major generals comprise Brigadier Zafarullah Khan, Brigadier Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, Brigadier Fida Hussain Malik, Shahzad Naeem Khan, Brigadier Muhammad Ihsanullah, Brigadier Aamir Abbasi and Brigadier Zafarul Haq.
Five officers of the Army Medical Corps also got promotion. These include Brigadier Khalid Hussain Asad, Brigadier Najam us Saqib, Brigadier Iftikhar Hussain, Brigadier Parvez Ahmed and Brigadier Saleem Jehangir.
The other officials include Brigadier Hamooduz Zaman Khan of Air Defence, Brigadier Jamil Masud and Brigadier Moazzam Ejaz of the Corps of Engineers, Brigadier Ali Farhan of Corps of Signals, Brigadier Majid Ehsan of Punjab, Brigadier Azhar Naveed Hayat Khan of Baloch, Brigadier Mohammad Khalil Dar of Aviation, Brigadier Tariq Qaddus of Corps of Military Intelligence, Brigadier Shahzad Malik of Ordnance and Brigadier Shahzad Naeem Qureshi of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
