The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced today that Zakir, 50, will replace ex-team captain and former Pakistan manager Moin Khan.
This is the second time since the start of the year that Zakir has changed posts. In January, he had been promoted to the post of Director International Cricket by the PCB.
Before his stint with domestic cricket, he had also served as general manager, international cricket.
Zakir’s appointment is another initiative that the board has taken after PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf was restored by the Islamabad High Court last month.
In January, the PCB had advertised vacancies for coaches for the national team besides forming a committee to hunt the best candidates for the slots, a consultancy plan for the 2015 World Cup was also revealed.

I think being close relative of the cricketing god Imran Khan alone makes Zakir Khan the perfect choice for the job - congrats
Very good decision by PCB. Moin Khan spent the majority of his time as Manager trying to get Dav Whatmores job. He kept trying to undermine Whatmore through the media instead of concentrating on his job as Manager and maintaining professionalism. Good to see he has been sacked. Now Moin can join Mohsin Khan on TV in self promotion.
Moin Khan was a proven asset unless he asked to leave this decision makes no sense at all. Moin Khan had brought back old daring spirit in the team and his leaving would leave a big gap and his working with Misbah was a great combination.
For the sake of stability, Moin Khan should be allowed to continue.
Zakir Khan has played only 2 test a and a couple of ODIs; thus lacks appropriate experience to be the manager of the team.
PCB should use some professional criteria to select manager not just the personal liking!
Dont know if this is a good move. Team seemed motivated under Moin Khan. They had a different attitude.
...... and PCB musical chair game goes on. Same gang keeps PCB hijacked
