‘Burning issue’: Kashmir Day marked in US capital

Jalil Abbas Jilani says Pakistan is committed to seeking just and peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute.

WASHINGTON: Pakistan is committed to seeking a just and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the country’s ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani said. He was speaking at a special event, organised at the Pakistan Embassy on the occasion of the Kashmir Solidarity Day. The event was attended by a large cross-section of the Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora in Washington. Ambassador Jilani reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm support to the people of Kashmir in their just struggle for seeking their right to self-determination in accordance with the UN resolutions. Former ambassador Touqir Hussain, in his keynote address, explained the background, history and the current status of the Kashmir dispute.
