JOHARABAD:

Poultry suppliers in the Joharabad tehsil protested against the police on Thursday for filing a case against a poultry-shop owner and seizing dead poultry from his shop.

Police had raided Five Star Chicken Shop and recovered dead chicken from the room adjacent to the shop.

According to the police, the shop-owner was charged because he did not have a valid explanation for stocking dead poultry, which they said, had probably been lying there for a few days. An FIR was registered against the shop owner and the stock was confiscated.

Scores of poultry shop owners in Joharabad and Khushab later called a protest against the police. They closed their shops for the day and gathered in front of the DCO’s office .

The protest rally was led by Abdul Qudoos, president of the Chicken Sellers’ Union.

The Trader’s Union general secretary, Rana Salimur Rehman, said the chicken had died on their way from the shed from suffocated. He said there was no one who could prove that the chicken was being sold.

The district additional collector heard both sides later in a meeting with some representatives. He formed a committee, supervised by Assistant Commissioner Saadat Pervez, to investigate the matter. He told the assistant commissioner to present a report to the Khushab district coordination officer.
