New mechanisms would not only help seed companies to produce good-quality hybrid seed, but would also help reduce high prices.

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Chairman Dr Iftikhar Ahmad on Tuesday said the Agricultural Innovation Programme would create a platform for the public and private sector institutions to share their innovations.

Presiding over a two-day meeting of the programme at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) here, he said this would also help promote agriculture sector activities, with enhancement in maize production in particular. He said the new mechanisms would not only help seed companies to produce good-quality hybrid seed, but would also help reduce high prices.

Under the innovation project, public and private partners will get support in the evaluation of climate-resilient maize varieties, bio-fortified maize and maize varieties resistant to pest and disease damages.
