They exchanged views on matters relating to national security and overall law and order situation in the country.
On January 24, the government decided in principle to launch a military operation against anti-state groups and the prime minister will announce the operation in the next session of parliament, Express News reported.
The government decided during a high-level meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on internal security following a wave of deadly bombings in the country.
At the meeting, the government was informed by the country’s military leadership that “a full-fledged operation in the tribal areas” is required to curb sectarian violence and terrorism, officials told The Express Tribune.
In a subsequent visit to Quetta last week, Nawaz directed the political and military leadership in the province to devise a joint strategy to ensure peace in the crisis-hit province.

The February 1st 2014 issue of the Economist magazine should be an interesting read for Pakistanis, (page 36, "Snarling, not pouncing - Militants are eating at Pakistan's heart. Will Nawaz Sharif take them on"?) The interesting quote from the article being "Terrified of becoming targets themselves, few in public life dare say the obvious: that extremists are destroying Pakistan from within"!
