KARACHI:

Pakistani hackers have claimed responsibility for hacking over 2,000 Indian websites on the country’s Republic Day, confirming reports published by the Indian media earlier this week.

“Hackers defaced more than 2,000 Indian websites – 2,118 to be exact – on Republic Day (January 26) in what is being termed as ‘a major cyber attack’,” The Hindu reported on January 29. According to the report, the attackers’ internet protocol (IP) address was traced to Pakistan.

“Most of the defaced websites were attacked by Pakistani hackers using the handles ‘StrikerRude’, ‘KashmirCyberArmy’, ‘PakCyberExpert’, ‘HUnterGujar’ and the operation was named as ‘#OP26jan’,” the newspaper cited the Global Cyber Security Response Team, Bangalore as saying. The websites targeted included that of the Central Bank of India.

Hackers, who claimed they were involved in the cyber attack, said three Pakistan-based hacking groups were responsible and said the act was meant as a ‘protest for the rights of Kashmiris’.

“Three teams – Team MaXiMiZerS, Pak Cyber Experts and Kashmir Cyber Army –worked together on this Republic Day of India,” one of the hackers involved in the cyber attack told The Express Tribune in email which identified him as ‘RUDE Hax’. He did not say which of the three teams he belonged to.

“The sole reason for this attack was Kashmir… On one side they [the Indians] are celebrating Republic Day, on the other side Kashmir is in crisis,” RUDE Hax said when asked about the motive behind the cyber attack.

“Kashmiris want freedom, we have heard this 100 times from many blogs and news [services]… Indians are killing innocent people in Kashmir because these people are Muslims and they [Indians] just want that part of the earth,” he added.

RUDE Hax said as many as 2,618 Indian websites were hacked, much higher than the figure reported by the Indian media.

“The Team MaXiMiZerS attacked 1,448 Indian websites in total, including those of the Central Bank of India and the State Bank of Patiala,” he said. “Pak Cyber Experts, the second team, attacked almost 1,050 Indian websites while Kashmir Cyber Army hacked 150 Indian domains,” the hacker added.

Another hacker, going by the handle Husnain Haxor, said the websites of Indian Railways, Assam Rifles, Thane Municipal Corporation and Jay TV were hacked as well.

@Indian software engineer: Yup, like how you finished the 47 war by losing Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to Pakistan, or the 65 war where you got thrashed by Pakistan Air Force, or the 71 war where Bangladesh became independent but did not join up with India and is today largely anti-India (at least the people). It is all a matter of perspective.

They are knowledgeable enough to hack but they believe that Indian forces are killing kashmiris because they are muslims. Talk about a little education being a dangerous thing.

@Pakistani software engineer: Don’t believe what your politicians say. India has won all war with Pakistan and in 71 war India was never interested in adding Bangladesh to Indian territory. Read the history books other than Pakistan.

Cyber warfare is not bad. No one is getting decimated. Hacking a website is not as bad as hacking an innocent person to death…it goes for both countries.

Thanks to my Pakistani brothers. Each and every true son of Kashmir wants Kashmir to be merged with Pakistan. We have the same religion, history, culture. The unfinished work of 1948 will be completed very very soon, InshaAllah. Kashmir banayga Pakistan. And once Kashmir is conqured, our Sabz Hilali will fly high on Dehli red fort by the end of 2014. ET please publish the true voice of Kashmir’s heart.

I know et will never post this but I want to share my opinion as the human caught in between this pointless fighting.
I am a proud Kashmiri from pakistan occupied Kashmir and even more a proud Muslim. Living in France back in 1990s, I married a Kashmiri from Indian occupied Kashmir. Both of us are actively involved in protesting for Kashmir’s independence from both India AND Pakistan. I along with many of my family members and Kashmiri friends do not want to be part of Pakistan. Kashmir IS KASHMIR and it was an amazing part of South Asia until both countries have messed it up. I pray to see Kashmir’s independence from Pakistan soon in my lifetime and from India too. Pakistan can’t care for its citizens in Balochistan and peshawar so why are they so bothered about the Kashmiris rights in India? And India, we Kashmiris can manage ourselves and we don’t want to be part of India either. InShAllah KASHMIR will be free!!!

When I was a kid,I read a story…In that an African tribe wanted to prove that they are the best and want every other tribe to know it…..So they decided that they will put a spear in the moon…After everyone failing to do so,they decide to throw mud on the moon to make it dirty…

After an hr or so of everyone throwing the mud on the moon and thereby on them also… They look at moon closely and find some patches.. They then party in merry telling that they had dirtied the moon

Now,why I suddenly remember this story?????

This is silly, there should be peace between the hackers of India and Pakistan so they can work together on strengthening each others internet sites… Or maybe thats what is going on and publically they are saying they are fighting? :P

@Bilal, Bro if you are so much interested in independence from both countries then go to your land and fight for it. All Kashmiris who want independence from both countries are sitting outside where they are earning money and not doing anything tangible for their land.

@Indian Reader, Don’t believe on your propaganda machine. PAF owned IAF in 1965 war. On ground the situation was nearly same for both countries. Indian Army was bigger than Pakistan so in that sense Pakistan successfully defended its territory against Indian attack. Go and read any independent source.

Obama asked the pak community to learn from Indian community in USA. See the difference.

Indian software engineers create giant world-class software companies like TCS, WIPRO, Infosys etc and are considered the best in the world. They create high paying jobs for young indians and boost the indian economy with high purchasing power .

Pakistani software engineers illegaly hack websites, deface and irritate indians, without any usefull end result. They can only destroy and become a nuisance, thats it.

It is good for india actually. Keep continuing in your way and we go our way.
