Under the rubble: Mine explosion claims two lives, injures five

The political agent of Orakzai Agency has ordered a probe into the incident.

An explosion in Orakzai Agency caused a mine to cave in on Wednesday, killing two coal miners and severely injuring five others.


An official of the political administration from lower Orakzai Agency said the incident occurred in Doli area. He explained the miners were planting explosives inside the mine for further excavation, when one of the explosives suddenly detonated, burying seven labourers under tonnes of coal.


The official added levies forces rushed to the site after the incident, and started rescue work along with other miners from surrounding areas. He said they pulled out two bodies from the debris, while five other were recovered severely injured.


The deceased were identified as Naimatullah, resident of Swat, and Syed Rahman from Shangla. The injured miners also hailed from Shangla, and were shifted to Kohat Divisional Hospital. Two of them were later referred to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar due to their critical condition.


The political agent of Orakzai Agency has ordered a probe into the incident.
