Overchargers charged: Operation against profiteers continues

Raids took place in Gulberg, North Nazimabad, Manghopir, Orangi, Landhi, Aram Bagh, Saddar and Jamshed Quarters.

KARACHI: Nine profiteers were sent to jail, 108 shopkeepers were challaned and a fine of Rs185,000 was imposed for charging excessively for commodities. The raids took place in Gulberg, North Nazimabad, Manghopir, Orangi, Landhi, Aram Bagh, Saddar and Jamshed Quarters. A total of 35 milk sellers, 10 fruits vendors, two vegetable vendors, nine grocers, 48 chicken sellers and two flour sellers were challaned. Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that an operation against profiteering is underway in the city by the Karachi divisional and district administrations. The commissioner’s office has also set up complaint centres at weekly bazaars where people can file complaints.
