Still growing: Profits rev up for Atlas Honda

Nine-month profit rises 21% YoY.

KARACHI: Atlas Honda – Pakistan’s largest motorcycle maker – has reported a profit after tax of Rs1.43 billion in the nine-month period ended December 2013, up 21% compared to Rs1.19 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Earnings per share (EPS) of the company for the period improved to Rs13.86, against Rs11.47 in the corresponding nine-month period of the previous year.

The company’s performance in the latest quarter (October-December 2013) remained positive as it posted a profit after tax of Rs480 million or EPS of Rs4.64, compared with a profit of Rs405 million or EPS of Rs3.92 in the same period of the previous year.

Atlas Honda, a part of Atlas Group, posted a handsome net profit after tax of Rs1.6 billion in 12-month period that ended March 2013 (the company’s reporting period). This was in comparison to the Rs1.2 billion it made in the previous year. Sales of the company stood at Rs42.3 billion, up 11.3% in the same period compared to previous year’s Rs38 billion.

The company’s current annual production stands at 630,000 units but it is targeting one million per year. It recently invested Rs600 million in its production facilities to raise the installed capacity to 850,000 by June 2015, in an attempt to increase from the current 750,000 units per year.

There are a 100 motorcycle makers in Pakistan out of which 80 are currently producing. Atlas Honda is the largest motorcycle manufacturer in Pakistan with a market share of 47%.
