RAWALPINDI: A jewellery shop on Service Road in the Sadiqabad area was looted by five unidentified robbers during a heist on Sunday. Police sources said that five men stormed into a jewellery shop owned by Amjad Mughal and made off with gold worth Rs1 million, 70,000 cash and four mobile phones. The robbers entered the shop after holding the guard hostage and snatching his gun. They then held two store employees at gunpoint, robbed the shop and fled on motorbikes. After the robbery, neighbouring shopkeepers staged protest demonstrations against the increasing number of robberies in the area. Jewellers Association President Sohail Sadiq condemned the robbery and demanded that the police arrest the culprits at the earliest. According to the police, three robbers barged into a grocery shop on Kuri Road. When the shopkeeper offered resistance, one of the robbers opened fire to scare him, but shot his accomplice instead. The two uninjured robbers immediately fled. The injured man is being treated in hospital under police supervision. Cases have been registered.
