ISLAMABAD: The capital police arrested around 500 suspects including 67 “illegal” Afghans during a search operation of the slum dwellings in Sector I-11 in the early hours of Sunday. The search operation and the arrests happened just a day after police had conducted similar raids in different parts of the city on Saturday and rounded up around 100 suspects. Around 400 police personnel including senior police officials participated in the raids on slum dwellings in I-11/1 and I-11/4, which mostly have Pakistani residents but may have some Afghan settlers as well. The katchi abadis fall under the jurisdiction of the Sabzi Mandi police station. Police confirmed that 487 people were arrested during the search operation on suspicion of involvement in criminal activities.
