CHITRAL:

At least 11 members of a tribe were killed and four others injured when a van plunged into a ravine in the Marwai area of Chitral on Saturday morning.

Confirming the deaths, Marwai police official Sher Wazir said that the driver lost control of the vehicle. Members of the tribe were on their way to Chitral from Shogran.

Five passengers were killed on the spot while the rest were critically injured.

The injured were later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Chitral.  Dr Noorul Islam, medical superintendent at the hospital, said that two passengers succumbed to their injuries on their way to the hospital while four others died in the hospital.

Officials confirmed that the tribesmen were coming to Chitral to resolve a dispute with another tribe. District Police Officer Ghulam Hussain, as cited by the Associated Press of Pakistan, blamed the accident on the dilapidated condition of the road and sheer recklessness of the driver.
