Talent competition: Rootsians dance to popular tunes

To enable students to recognize their talents and come up with ingenious and innovative ideas to compete with the nation’s best, Roots College International (RCI) held a four-day Roots Ivy Olympiad 2014 at its DHA campus, said a press release.


The third day of the annual talent competition at RCI saw competitions such as a photo walk, sketching, a spelling bee, a treasure hunt and a battle of the bands.

RCI is known for conducting such competitions and other inter-college extra-curricular activities. Photojournalist Sajid Haider was judge for the photo walk while Amna Jamal Shah of Hunerkada judged the sketch making competition.

Famous Kashmiri singer Rukhsana Murtaza, Karachi Arts Council Creative Director Muhammad Ali Khan and singer Alamadar Khan were the judges for battle of the bands competition.

Rukhsana Murtaza who has been given the titles of ‘Malka-Kashmir’ and ‘Bulbul-i- Kashmir’ by the United Nations sang her hit numbers: ay dunya ke munsafo, mere watan tere janat mein, lathay ki chaddar.

Alamadar Khan sang his famous numbers ‘So far away’ and ‘thoughts of you’.

Falak had his fans cheering with ‘Saajna’ and ‘Ijazat’ and left the crowd mesmerised with his latest song ‘Intizar’. Everyone sang along and applauded his onstage charisma.

Participants enjoyed the exhilarating performances by singers and were captivated by their favorite tunes. Alamadar and Falak were thrilled to see a lively crowd and praised Rootsians for being such a wonderful audience.
