Joint investigation team set up

Team set up to interrogate the suspects arrested on alleged charges of the recent target killings.

KARACHI: The provincial government has set up a joint investigation team to interrogate the suspects arrested on alleged charges of the recent target killings in the city. The investigation team will include officers of the Crime Investigation Department, the Special Investigation Unit, the Rangers and other law-enforcing units.

The Sindh home department selected the members of the investigation team who will interrogate the arrested suspects and will submit the report of their findings to the Sindh government after a week. The suspects have been moved to a CID cell where senior officers are interrogating them.

More than 65 people were killed and 80 were injured in different incidents of target killing last week. Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had directed the Sindh home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza to arrest the suspects involved in target killings and take necessary steps to restore peace in the city.

Mirza held a meeting with IG Sindh Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak, CCPO Karachi Fayyaz Leghari and other high security officials and passed the orders for the arrest of the perpetrators.

The police have arrested suspects from different areas including Jamil from Mominabad, Nawaz Khan held from Orangi Town, Shor Khan from Shah Faisal Colony, Ghulam Farooq from Baldia Town, Mohammad Umer from Pirabad, Rizwan from Sachal and Syed Shah has been arrested from Orangi Town.

The arrested men have links with political parties, according to officials. The CCPO Karachi had informed the higher officials about the arrests of the suspects and had requested for the joint investigation team to be formed.
