KARACHI: A local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was shot dead by unknown assailants near Banaras Chowk on Friday. The victim, 48-year-old Mujeebur Rehman, was the PPP president of PS-96 constituency. According to Pirabad police, he was commuting from his residence to the car showroom that he owned in Pakhtun Market, when two armed motorcyclists ambushed his jeep. Rehman was shot twice in the chest and died on his way to  the hospital. The victim’s body was later taken  to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal  formalities, where a large number of PPP workers and leaders gathered. Pirabad SHO Abdul Moid said it was too early to ascertain motive behind the attack but the police are following several leads including personal enmity because the  deceased was also involved in buying and selling of land.
