LAHORE:

Justice Ijaz Ahmad of the Lahore High Court directed the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) on Thursday to respond by February 1 to a petition by Syed Ali Musa Gilani, son of former primer Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, seeking to remove his name from the Exit Control List.

Earlier, the Ministry of Interior had said that it placed Gilani on the exit control list at the request of the ANF on account of his role in an ephedrine quota case.

Gilani’s counsel Khalid Ranjha said the Supreme Court had granted bail to the petitioner in the ephedrine case. Ranjha alleged that the interim government had put Gilani’s name on the ECL because he had criticised it over the kidnapping of his brother. He requested the court to direct the Ministry of Interior to immediately remove his name from the exit control list. The case regarding the illegal sale of Ephedrine was registered on October 10 last year, after two pharmaceutical companies were accused of obtaining export quotas for the drug in collusion with the health ministry officials that exceeded the limits fixed by the International Narcotics Control.
