Violation of rules: NAB takes up investigation against 11 medical colleges

Several violations of PMDC rules were found during inspections.

LAHORE:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday started an inquiry against 11 medical and dental colleges for collecting tuition fee from students for the year 2013-2014 without recognition by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

A NAB spokesman said several violations of PMDC rules came to light during inspections in late November 2013.

He said these institutions were then directed not to advertise for admissions until their institutions were notified by the federal government under PMDC Ordinance, 1962, Medical and Dental (Amendments) Act.

However, he said they continued to receive admission fees from prospective students.

He said on Monday that the National Accountability Bureau sought PMDC and administration records from the colleges.

A senior PMDC official told The Express Tribune the colleges were working illegally included Pakistan Red Crescent Medical and Dental College in Lahore,

Mohiuddin Islamic Medical College in Mirpur, Abbotabad International Medical College, Independent Medical College in Faisalabad , Women Medical College Abbotabad, Hashmat Medical and Dental College in Gujrat, Al-Razi Medical College in Peshawar, Sahiwal Medical College in Sahiwal, Muhammad Bin Qasim Dental and  Medical College in Karachi, Bhittain Medical and Dental College in Mirpur Khas, Federal Medical and Dental College in Islamabad.
