Pre-poll killing: MQM candidate dies in bomb attack

Witnesses say at least 2 armed men riding a motorcycle threw some explosive material at the victim’s car and escaped.

KARACHI: A candidate for upcoming local bodies’ elections who was associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was killed while his brother and a security guard were wounded in a bomb attack on main University Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Tuesday night. Witnesses told The Express Tribune that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle threw some explosive material at the victim’s car and escaped. The explosion killed Wajahat Hussain Naqvi and injured his brother, Ali Naqvi and a security guard. His driver managed to drive the car to the Aga Khan Hospital. SHO Hayat Abbasi said the deceased was the area manager of a bank and also the chairman of Shia Matami Anjuman-e-Makhdooma Konain. Naqvi was on his way home in New Rizvia Society when attacked with a locally made low-intensity bomb.
