FAISALABAD: Police on Tuesday killed a man they said was a proclaimed offender in what they said was a shootout. They said two of his accomplices had fled. City Police Officer Haidar Ashraf said that Basharat Iqbal alias Phalli of Chak 108-JB was wanted by the police for eight murders and two kidnaps. He said a court had declared him a proclaimed offender. The CPO said that the Kotwali police had been tipped about Iqbal’s presence at a dera in the village. SHO Farrukh Waheed led a police team that surrounded the dera and told Iqbal to surrender. When the men inside the dera saw the police, they shot at them. The police shot back, killing Iqbal. Two men escaped from the dera. The CPO said they found a Kalashnikov, four magazines and 30 bullets on the body. He said the police were looking for the men at large.
