Bilateral relations: ‘Partnership required between Pak-SL’

Pakistan’s exports to Sri Lanka amounted to $361 million in 2013 with imports being $77 million.

Newly-appointed Sri Lankan Consul General, HMB Herath believes Sri Lanka and Pakistan share close relations but these can be further strengthened by increasing bilateral trade.

The Sri Lankan official said that bilateral trade between the two countries had increased by 13% in 2013 at $438 million compared to the previous year. Herath said the cooperation could be extended to other fields as well.

For this purpose, he pledged, he would be making every possible effort. Giving details about Pakistan and Sri Lankan trade, Herath said the balance of trade was very much in Pakistan’s favour.

Pakistan’s exports to Sri Lanka amounted to $361 million in 2013 with imports being $77 million. Cement, sugar, cotton and basmati rice were the main Pakistani exports to Sri Lanka, while Sri Lanka exported spices particularly black pepper, betel leaf, coconut and coconut byproducts, lentils and rubber.
