
A man and his nephew were killed while another pedestrian was severely injured in a shootout in Akora Khattak, Nowshera on Saturday morning.
Police official Fazal Subhan said Ghulam Farooq informed them his son Umer Farooq and Umer’s nephew Naveed were on their way to the fields in a tractor when Atta Muhammad stopped them and asked them to stay there to resolve a dispute.
Muhammad then went to his house, brought his AK-47 and allegedly shot Umer and his nephew. A passer-by, Kamran Khan, was also injured in the shooting.
Subhan said both Umer and Naveed succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital. He added the deceased had an old dispute with the accused. A report was filed and search for the accused is under way.
Motorcycles impounded
More than a hundred motorcycles were impounded by Nowshera police in a crackdown operation against unregistered motorcycles.
DPO Rabnawaz Khan said they launched a search operation in Aza Khel, Nowshera Kalan and Pabbi tehsil on the directives of IGP Nasir Durrani, impounding unregistered motorcycles. A number of stolen motorcycles were also recovered in the operation. The seized vehicles were shifted to the respective police stations.
Khan added the crackdown operation would continue for the next few days in Akora Khattak, Risalpur, Cantt, Kaka Sahib and other areas. After the operation, they will launch a crackdown against unregistered three wheelers in the district.
The DPO said separate cases were filed against violators.
