KARACHI:

Discarded pacer Wahab Riaz starred with the bat to score a fluent half-century and help NBP win by 86 runs against PTV in their President’s Cup One-Day match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

The match was played a day before it was originally scheduled as the Pakistan Cricket Board had agreed to give the ground for use during the Punjab Youth Festival.

Batting first, NBP got off to a poor start as they lost wickets at regular intervals and were 125 for seven at one stage. However, Riaz stepped up and took his team to 228 all out in 39.3 overs, making 77 off 67 balls. He struck four sixes and six fours and was involved in an 87-run eighth-wicket stand with Raza Hasan (23).

Meanwhile, Zohaib Ahmed took three wickets while Nawaz Ahmed bagged two.

In reply, PTV were bowled out for 142 with Nawaz top-scoring with 55. Hasan and Hammad Azam got three wickets respectively.
