Unconfirmed: ATC told about suspect’s transfer to Hyderabad jail

According to the letter, the suspect was shifted on January 8.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) was intimated on Friday that a suspected target killer standing trial in over two dozen cases has been transferred to Hyderabad on the orders of the Sindh Prison IG Nusrat Mangan.


The ATC-I was informed through a letter about the transfer of the suspect, Shujat Hashmi, from Karachi Central Prison to Hyderabad Central Prison. According to the letter, the suspect was shifted on January 8.

According to the court sources, the police officials have not yet filed any application for the transfer of cases pending before different courts. The prosecution said Hashmi was facing trial in over two dozen cases pertaining to heinous nature, adding that several cases were registered at different police stations against him.

“It was government’s policy,” said the Sindh Prison IG.

Earlier, home department had moved a summary to the chief minister for transferring over 50 suspects from Karachi to other cities and the move was a result of the summary, said official sources.

Three cases are pending before the ATC-I against Hashmi. The court adjourned the cases till February 1.
