On Friday — the second day after his reinstatement — Ashraf spent a hectic day at the board’s headquarter in Lahore, meeting several PCB officials for an update on the prevailing situation.
An intriguing day awaits the chairman who has convened the Board of Governors (BoG) meeting on Saturday.
PCB’s patron Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif dissolved the BoG, which was superseded by the Interim Management Committee (IMC). However, the body is deemed revived following Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict on Wednesday.
“Several pending decisions are on the agenda in the BoG meeting,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune.
“These also include discussions on appointment of a chief selector and new coach besides decisions on contracts of PCB’s employees.”
The PCB has invited all 12 members of the body including Haroon Rasheed who was part of the IMC.
Interestingly, some members seem reluctant to attend the meeting due to the prevailing uncertainty.
Rizvi advises legal caution
PCB’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi has asked the Board to assess the detailed judgement and take actions in accordance.
The lawyer added that the fate and status of SRO/notification of January 10 which had given a three-month extension to the IMC needs to be ascertained.
He has also asked the Board to clarify the status of BoG, IMC and Ashraf from the Patron’s office at the earliest.
On the other hand, the government is unlikely to remain silent and is weighing options for a move against Ashraf’s reinstatement.
“The detailed judgment is being assessed and a next move is expected in the coming days,” said an official privy to the matter.
Ashraf was restored to his post by a two-member bench of the IHC comprising Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan and Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi.
ICC chief congratulates Ashraf
PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf had his first talk with the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Officer David Richardson after his reinstatement.
According to a PCB official, the top ICC official congratulated Ashraf for his restoration during a telephonic conversation.
Richardson hoped that Ashraf’s reinstatement will bring stability in the PCB and assured ICC’s full support in the revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

Zakas constituency was exactly like PML (N) Govt. Won through ROs.
I think all should follow the PCB constitution. I think President or Prime Minister offices should not be involved in any sports. If PCB constitution has a patron in chief position then it should be taken out. Checks and balances should be on the Chairman of the board, Chief Selector, Diectors etc. Selection committee should be independent. No chairman or chief selector can change selection once it is announced. Statistical data should be considered, along with current performance and experience, and fitness test should be the first step in selecting any player.
If previous Chairman has decided on matters than new on or reinstated chairman should not undone any changes. Follow ICC management in running board affairs.
This time appoint local coach not a foreign one.
Mr. Ashraf, can you please explain how you got 'elected' and which associations voted for you? The word is the only associations which voted for you were the one's you created yourself. Can you please also list your achievements during your tenure? Nothing much to show there either. So please be gone and let somebody competent run the Board.
