ABBOTABAD: A man allegedly died of wounds inflicted on him by more than a dozen people for stealing a goat, said police officials on Wednesday. The police have registered a case against 17 accused but claim it has yet to be established whether the man died of the beating or natural causes.

A man identified as Daud from the village of Banda Jalal Khan, told the police that Bilal had accused his brother, Zaheer, of stealing the goat.

According to Daud, on January 4, around 17 people barged into Zaheer’s house and forcibly took him to Bilal’s house where they beat him mercilessly.

After two hours of constant beating, they left an injured Zaheer there. Daud lodged a complaint with the police against 17 people for detaining and torturing his brother.

He said Zaheer was later taken to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he was under treatment for multiple injuries. Daud added his brother returned home on January 14 and passed away the same day.

The Supply Bazaar police have registered a case but have not made any arrests as yet. When approached for comments, SHO Gulzar Khan said they were waiting for the post-mortem report to establish the cause of death.
