ISLAMABAD:

President Mamnoon Hussain has requested the World Bank (WB) to consider financing energy and water resource projects in Pakistan to help the country overcome its chronic energy shortages and water crisis.

In a meeting with World Bank Country Director Rachid Benmessaoud, the president said that the World Bank could play a major role in supporting the government’s efforts in addressing the power and energy crisis, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.

The president expressed confidence that the organisation would continue extending its support for development projects in the country.

Benmessaoud briefed the president about World Bank’s new Country Partnership Strategy for the next five years (2015-19) and also about other projects of the bank aimed at socio-economic development.
