CHARSADDA:

A teenage girl was allegedly raped by her father’s friend during a visit at his house in Nisata area of Charsadda, police said on Friday.

Samina*, 14, told the police she and her father went to visit his friend Salman* on December 31. After spending some time at Salman’s residence, Samina’s father told his friend they wanted to head back. However, Salman insisted to let Samina spend New Year’s Eve with him and his wife, adding they would drop her off when they visit Salman the next day.

Samina said her father agreed and left, after which she, Salman and his wife watched television late into the night. Later, when Salman’s wife went to bed, he allegedly assaulted and raped Samina.

Samina told the police Salman’s wife was sleeping on the bed next to them, but made no attempt to restrain her husband despite hearing her cries. Samina’s father said she told him of the assault when she returned home the next day.

The police said they subsequently raided the house of the accused and arrested his wife, who confirmed Samina spent the night at their residence, but said she knew nothing of the rape. The initial medical report confirmed the girl was sexually assaulted and more samples were sent to the Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar for further tests, shared a police official.

He said they are also conducting raids in the area to apprehend Salman, adding influential people from the locale are urging Samina’s father to settle the matter with the accused.

Samina’s father, however, demanded the chief justice of Pakistan and the government to deliver justice and punish the culprit.
