‘Artistic expression’: 12th Sufi music festival opens today

Over 200 musicians and singers from the country to take part in event, says Rafi Peer Theater Workshop CEO.

The 12th International Mystic Music Sufi Festival 2014 will open on January 10 (today) at the Alhamra Arts Council on The Mall.   


Rafi Peer Theater Workshop CEO Usman Peerzada told newsmen at the Lahore Press Club that the festival was tribute to Sufi poets.

He said the festival aimed at promoting artistic expressions. He said Sufi music would be central theme of the festival. He said over 200 musicians and singers from the country would take part in the event.


He said Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan would inaugurate the festival at Alhamra Hall II.

“We hope to present Sufi singing and devotional practices,” Peerzada said. “We believe Sufi traditions are more important now than ever.”

Peerzada said the first festival had been first held in 2000 and artists from 22 countries had participated in the event.

“We believe that Sufi music is an effective tool to bring revolutionary change in the society,” Peerzada added.
