Pakistan is the only country where polio cases reached a total of 85 in 2012, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Secretary Muhammad Shehzad Arbab was told at a meeting on Wednesday when he expressed concern over the increasing number of cases registered in K-P.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Peshawar Task Force at the Civil Secretariat, Arbab told those concerned that they need to comply with orders issued for polio eradication.
Officials of the task force presented progress reports from all districts to Arbab. The chief secretary expressed displeasure at the fact that some district police officers (DPOs) were unable to attend the meetings regarding polio eradication campaign.
He ordered the DPOs to attend the meetings regularly and make sure that the polio teams had proper security. According to Arbab, the security aspect of the polio drive should be given utmost importance.
