ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has joined hands with Bahria University to promote academia-industry linkages.

ICCI President Shaban Khalid and Bahria University Rector Vice Admiral (retd) Shahid Iqbal signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday, said a press release issued by the ICCI.

Both organisations agreed to enhance mutual cooperation in arranging work opportunities for the students and conducting joint research activities that could facilitate innovation in local industry.

Khalid said developed nations have achieved tremendous economic progress by promoting academia-industry linkages and Pakistan should learn from their experience.

“Improved academia-industry collaboration would lead to increased and diversified economic activities,” Khalid said.

He said such collaboration will also help in conceptualisation and conversion of innovative ideas into technologically-reliable economic opportunities.

Iqbal said universities cannot operate in isolation because knowledge has no value unless it is shared and focused on current needs. He said bridges need to be built to connect universities with clusters of industries to meet the emerging needs of society.
