Agriculture: SFDA content with poultry facilities

ISLAMABAD: Technical delegation of a four-member Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) said that the standard of poultry facilities in Pakistan was as ‘good as it was in any European country’. The body said this in a  meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) which was presided by its Secretary Seerat Asghar. The delegation visited National Veterinary Laboratory situated at NARC (National Agricultural Research Center) and expressed satisfaction over their standard of quality. Asghar apprised the delegation of various preventive and precautionary measures undertaken by Pakistan to successfully contain H5NI virus in the country since 2005. He said that due to concerted efforts the country confirmed freedom from Bird Flu disease and since then poultry industry has posted an annual growth rate of 13%. “Saudi Arabia may soon restore import of poultry products from Pakistan,” said Asghar.
