Army lieutenant commits suicide

A young Pakistan Army officer was found dead in his house on Tuesday. According to the Industrial Area police, the body of Lieutenant Haris Usman, 24, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his house in Sector I-8.
“It seems Haris Usman committed suicide,” said Industrial Area ASP Ahsan Iqbal. According to the police, army officials contacted them at around noon and informed the police that a military officer had committed suicide in his house.
The Industrial Area police went to the scene and shifted Usman’s body to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for autopsy.
The police said the officer was posted in Quetta and had come home on leave. On Tuesday, his family found him hanging with ceiling fan.
The police said the family members approached the army right after finding Usman’s body.
The army and intelligence agencies carried out an hours-long investigation before determining that the cause of death was suicide case, after which they approached the police.
“I visited the scene, but army officers were already investigating the case. My opinion is that it was indeed suicide,” said Inspector Fiaz Ranja, the Industrial Area station house office.
Dr Farukh Kamal, who conducted the autopsy, told The Express Tribune that the typical signs of suicide by hanging were found around Usman’s neck.
He further said that no sign of resistance or torture were found on his body. “My initial findings suggest it is a case of suicide,” he said and adding that blood and other samples were being sent to Lahore for testing.
