KARACHI: Pakistan’s business community and other players in the national economy have greatly appreciated the European Union’s decision to allow greater access to Pakistani products to the European market. Chairman of the South Asia Forum Syed Jawaid Iqbal hopes the country will fully exploit the new economic potential offered by the GSP Plus status. “It is a great boom for Pakistan and the government must take full advantage by overcoming its habitual complacency and ending corruption, inefficiency, bureaucratic bottlenecks and infrastructure problems. It should also seriously address the energy crisis,” said Iqbal. The statuswill come into force on January 1 and will be effective till 2017. The South Asia Forum is a private sector ‘Think Tank’ that regularly analyses and discusses the social, cultural, business, economic and political regional issues in the global perspective.
