KARACHI: The 60th edition of the National Hockey Championship concluded in style with the NBP winning the title after edging out defending champions PIA following a tense final.

It was an identical show from the well-matched outfits; the epic battle required a tie-breaker to decide the title winners. The 70-minute encounter ended with a 2-2 deadlock following a mmmdisplay of skilled hockey from both teams.

PIA dominated proceedings from the outset by taking a double lead after goals from Mohammad Zubair and Shafqat Rasool.

However, the bankers struck back through Mohammad Dilber and Kashif Rasul to stretch the final to penalty-shootouts.

The stipulated five chances also witnessed a deadlock (3-3) before Ali Shan held his nerves to score the all-important goal to give NBP victory.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Imran scored a 69th minute goal as Wapda recorded a close 5-4 win over SSGC in the match for bronze medal.
