In-house conflict: Asif Ali Zardari holds meetings with prominent PPP members

Former president Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah visited Tar Palace in Sardargarh on Saturday and held meetings with the Mahar brothers and the Jam brothers.


According to sources, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) members visited Tar Palace in Sardargarh, where opposition leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, senator Islamuddin Shaikh and MPA Syed Nasir Shah were already present. The former president held a meeting over lunch with the Mahar brothers and discussed the current political scenario of Ghotki especially in the wake of upcoming local bodies elections.

The meeting also aimed to tackle the the growing rift between the Mahar brothers and other PPP leaders of the district including Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi and Dharejo brothers. "The former president instructed Shah to ensure that any conflict between party leaders is resolved immediately," Pitafi informed The Express Tribune.

Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar reportedly demanded chairmanship of Ghotki and Sukkur district councils for his sons Haji Khan Mahar and Mohammad Aslam Shaikh respectively. When joining PPP, the Mahar brothers were given two national assembly and three provincial assembly seats. The brothers also requested Zardari to remove Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi as PPP Ghotki district president.

Later, Zardari visited the Jam House in Ghotki, where he held a meeting with former MPA Jam Saifullah Dharejo, MPA Jam Ikramullah Dharejo, Jam Inamullah Dharejo, Jam Asadullah Dharejo and Pitafi. The Jam brothers reportedly asked for the provision of an equal quota to party leaders and party workers in the upcoming local bodies elections.
