Corruption charge: Cop accused of seeking bribe gets bail

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge granted after-arrest bail to a sub inspector accused of demanding a bribe to arrest a man who allegedly gave the petitioner a cheque that bounced. SI Rizwanullah Khan of South Cantt police was granted bail on furnishing bonds of Rs50,000. Advocate Syed Anwarul Hassan Gillani had filed a complaint against Mansoor for giving him a cheque for Rs5 million that was dishonoured. SI Khan, who was assigned the case for investigation, demanded a Rs100,000 bribe to arrest Mansoor, Gillani said. He said that he gave SI Khan Rs50,000 and promised to give him the rest later. Gillani said SI Khan then threatened to acquit Mansoor if he did not pay the rest of the amount.
