According to Punjab Taekwondo Association official Arshad Mubarik, the event showcased 200 athletes from nine districts of the province.

Bahawalpur won four gold medals to take the second position in the over-all rankings while Sahiwal bagged three gold medals. The events took place at the Faisalabad Sports Complex.

“A considerable number of people showed up to watch the competition,” Mubarik told The Express Tribune. “The atmosphere was good and the spectators enjoyed the fights.

“Each athlete was given accommodation and food allowance. It was an all-Punjab competition so we arranged the event according to our budget and to the best of our abilities.”

Meanwhile, Lahore athletes reigned over the cycling competition held in Kasur.

Shamoon Masih won the 30-kilometre road race as Kashif Lari followed him in second position, while Muhammad Humair finished third.

The road race featured 38 cyclists from seven teams including Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Lahore, Sahiwal and Sialkot.

“Lahore dominated today’s [Friday] event, but hopefully riders from other teams will perform better in the velodrome event now,” said Punjab Cycling Association official Nazakat Ali.
