The drones targeted a compound near Qutab Khel. Though the dead bodies could not be immediately identified.
An official of the security forces from Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan Agency, confirmed the strike and said that the US drone fired two missiles at a compound in Qutab Khel area, around five kilometers east of Miranshah.
According to a local tribesman, two loud explosions were heard on the outskirts of Miranshah. The strike created panic among locals.
“We can still hear the sound of drones hovering in the sky” he said, adding that rescue work of pulling out the bodies had started.
This is the first drone strike in Pakistani territory in almost three weeks.
Earlier in December, an anti-drone resolution had been adopted by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
UN General Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution against the use of armed drones in foreign territories in what Pakistan claimed to be a ‘moral victory’ for the country.
The 193-member body adopted a resolution on Thursday urging the United States to comply with international laws for its use of unmanned aerial vehicles for taking out ‘high value targets’ in countries. This was the first time that the issue of drones was raised in a UN resolution.

After UN resolution on drone attacks my comment in which I had predicted that US would ignore this resolution as in the case of Israel and attacks will continue was blocked by the ET moderators. Such attacks will increase in the coming months as US prepares to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.
The “Big Question” with regard to US drone strikes is why Pakistan’s civilians and in particular the media, are not demanding an explanation from Pakistan’s Military as to why they have exercised no physical military means to secure Pakistan’s borders from intruding US drones.
Serving diplomatic demarches, passing assembly resolutions, blockading US convoys, delivering rabble rousing speeches and whining to US officials is at best meaningless wasted effort until and unless physical means to prevent US drone attacks are carried out by Pakistan’s military.
Surely this civilian silence is not born out of mortal fear of the Military despite the fact that Pakistan is not currently a Military Dictatorship?
Why don't you people your prime minister what kind of promises he had made to the Americans while he was wined and dined in Washington DC.
Less than a week back, ET reported that Pakistan’s National Assembly had passed a resolution moved by one Minister Chaudhry Barjees Tahir. Stating “This House appreciates the efforts of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government in the adoption of a resolution against the use of drone strikes by the UN General Assembly,” Seems that the resolution was wholly premature and if Pakistan is indeed serious about stopping drone strikes it would be better to get its armed forces who have gorged on national resources to do something about it rather than passing resolutions in the National Assembly.
@Wicky IK had a chance to become PM earlier but he declined it. Where is Nawaz league government in all this?
A Christmas present for the terrorists!
we should appreciate USA helping us eradicate these criminals who challenge sovereignty of Pakistan, kill our soldiers, destroy people's properties.
@faisal:
What goes around comes around.
United Nations General Assembly adopted a unanimous resolution against the use of armed drones in foreign territories in what Pakistan claimed to be a ‘moral victory’ for the country.
These claims by the PMLN ministers are extremely amusing, and make Pakistan a laughing stock. They should at least wait for a while before making tall claims.
Aaaand we're back to square one.
I think its high time federal took a stand against this insanity. What on earth is going on? Throw the US Ambassador out and put another resolution in UN Security Council. This must end now. Americans are making every effort to re ignite terrorism here.
Superb accuse for Imran Khan to topple Government, break down state machinery and become PM that is his entire desire:)
