FAISALABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department (ETD) on Tuesday sealed 873 properties over non-payment of property tax. An ETD Faisalabad spokesman told The Express Tribune that the defaulters had been issued several notices reminding them about their dues. He said they had been given a deadline, which was twice extended. A crackdown was then launched against chronic defaulters on December 1 under the Punjab Immoveable Property Act 1958. He said so far ETD teams had sealed properties of 873 people and recovered Rs9 million. He said the crackdown would continue till property tax from all defaulters was collected. He said there were over 150,000 registered tax payers. Most of them, he said, were either making partial property tax payments or none at all.
