ISLAMABAD:

An accountability court on Monday deferred indictment of former president Asif Ali Zardari in five corruption references as he failed to appear in court once again. This is the third time the indictment was deferred.

During the course of the hearing on Monday, Farooq Naek submitted a fresh application to once again seek exemption for the former president’s appearance for ‘security reasons’. The court accepted the request and adjourned the matter till January 9, 2014.

At the next hearing, the court will formally indict the former president in all five references related to the Polo Ground, SGS, ARY, Ursus Tractors and Cotecna cases filed under the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance, 1999.
