Amid tight security, the chehlum procession peacefully passed through the capital on Monday.
The main procession was taken out from Imambargh Asna Ashri in G-6, and after passing through the traditional routes, culminated at the same place at 10pm.
Before taking out the procession, a majlis was held in front of the G-6 Imambargh, where religious scholars highlighted the sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his companions.
In view of the cold weather, residents of G-6 and social organisations had established sabeels offering chicken soup and tea to the mourners, while, a number of medical camps had also been set up to attend to emergencies.
Police and a contingent of Rangers had been deployed on the procession routes and a bomb disposal squad led the procession. All routes leading to the main imambargah had been blocked by placing containers and barbed wire.
An army helicopter also carried out air surveillance of the procession, while volunteers frisked participants before allowing them to go join the main congregation.
